William
R.
Harring Jr.

WILLIAM R. HARRING JR. entered this world on September 5, 1920, the second child born to Ida May and William R. Harring in in Camden, New Jersey. His father, who had a long and distinguished career with the Camden Fire Department, had joined the department at some point between June 5, 1917 and the date of the  1920 Census enumeration. Great-uncle Samuel E. Harring also served with the Fire Department, from the 1900s into the early 1930s.

In January of 1920 the Harrings and older son Quentin lived in North Camden at 130 Main Street, the home of Ida May's parents, Walter and Alice Banks. By 1924 the Harrings had moved to 812 North Front Street, a stones throw from their previous residence. Sadly, it appears that Ida May Harring had passed away by 1926. William Harring Sr remarried in 1926, second wife Marie Wade was 18 at the time. The Harrings continued to reside at 812 North Front Street through at least the spring of 1942. William Harring Sr. reached the rank of Deputy Chief by the time his career ended.

William Harring Jr. was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on March 2, 1948. He reported for duty the following day.

By 1956 William R. Harring Jr. and his wife, the former Josephine Simpson, were living in Cramer Hill at 797 North 30th Street. He retired from the Camden Fire Department on July 1, 1981.

A lifelong Camden resident, William Harring Jr. passed away on July 31, 1990. He was survived by his wife and sons William R. Harring III and Robert Harring. The Harring family was still at 797 North 30th Street as late as 2002. Josephine Harring joined her husband in November of 2005.
