ROBERT A. MORTON was born in Camden, New Jersey on September 10, 1919 to John and Mary Morton. He was the youngest of seven children, coming after Marian, Ethel Dorothy, Fayetta, Constance, and John R. Morton. The family was living at 814 Silver Street when the census was taken in January of 1920, and were still there in 1927. By 1929 John Morton and three of his children were living at 781 Pine Street. where they stayed into the 1930s. By the end of the decade they had moved to 775 Division Street.
Robert A. Morton was inducted into the United States Army on August 26, 1942. After completing his military service he returned to Camden. The 1947 City Directory shows Robert A. Morton living at 816 South 8th Street. Robert A. Morton was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on August 1, 1952. He was then living at 758 Division Street. He moved to 937 Lowell Street during the 1960s.
After serving the City of Camden for 25 years, Robert A. Morton retired on pension on September 1, 1977. He passed away on November 23, 1981, survived by his wife, the former Wilhelmina Williams, and children June Morton, Elicia Morton Nelson, Robert G. Morton and John R. Morton.
