JAMES W. SHROFF was a carpenter and builder who resided in Camden's North Ward. He was elected mayor in a close election in 1856 as a Democrat, carrying the city by a margin of only 22 votes. He did not run for re-election. James Shroff subsequently worked at the iron works conducted by John Farson Starr and Jesse W. Starr, where he had charge of the moulding loft. He passed away in 1864. |
