HOWARD J. GOONAN JR. served for a few years with the Camden Fire Department in the 1970s. He moved out of the city and had a long and distinguished career as a volunteer fire fighter with the Bellmawr Fire and Rescue Department.

Howard J. Goonan was born January 22, 1948 to Howard J. Goonan and his wife, the former Margaret Harrington Goonan. His grandfather, Howard F. Harrington, His father had served in the United States Army during World War II. His parents were living at 246 Eutaw Avenue in East Camden when he was born and were still there as late as 1993.

A product of Camden public schools Howard Goonan Jr. graduated from Henry H. Davis Jr. High School in 1963 and from Woodrow Wilson High School in Camden in 1966.

Howard Goonan was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on June 12, 1970 and served until December of 1975. He left Camden in the early 1970s and was involved with the Bellmawr, New Jersey Fire Department and early as 1973. He passed away after a long illness on January 29, 2018. He was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Harrington Goonan, who passed in 2006, and his father, Howard J. Goonan Sr., who passed in 2014.

Bellmawr - Howard J. Goonan, Jr., on January 29, 2018 after a long illness. Age 70. Howard was the Past President of Bellmawr Fire & Rescue, Past Commander of the Sons of the Brooklawn American Legion, and retired from the Borough of Bellmawr. Beloved companion of 42 years, Bettylynn Cummings. Devoted father of Michele Small (John), Lisa (Tommy), Joseph, and Michael (Angel). Loving grandfather of Jimmy, Brett, Carly, John, Brielle, Brad, and Zachary and great grandfather of Robert. Dear brother of Linda Fisher, Margaret Goonan, and Robert Goonan. Son-in-law of Iona Cummings. There will be a viewing from 6pm to 9pm Thursday at GARDNER FUNERAL HOME, RUNNEMEDE. Interment private.
