Gloria LoPrete was born Glorai Troiano. She learned the craft of baking fresh bread and rolls by hand at the side of her father, who operated the Unique Bakery at 913 South 3rd Street in South Camden for many years. She married Donato LoPrete, and together they founded Erlton Italian Bakery in what was then Delaware Township (present-day Cherry Hill) NJ. The business moved to the corner of Marlton Avenue and Berkley Street in Camden in 1966, and has been there ever since. East Camden residents have been savoring the aroma of the fresh bread baking in the family owned and operated bakery for decades. Sons Pete and Lou, who both literally grew up in the business, operate it today, and their children put in time as well. Until illness overtook her in 2003, Gloria LoPrete continued to come into work at the family business. Gloria LoPrete passed away on August 8, 2004. |
