FRANCIS PAUL STIBI was born in February 13, 1929 to William J. Stibi Sr. and his wife, the former Emma Steck. His father was a Camden police officer. The 1930 Census has the family living at 924 North 5th Street. Besides Francis, the family included older siblings Marie Stibi,
William J. Stibi Jr., and John Stibi. A sister, Rose, would come later. Also living with the family was maternal grandfather Fred Steck.

Older brother William J. Stibi Jr. was appointed to the Camden Fire Department on December 20, 1950. He reported for duty on January 1, 1951 and served until to July 1, 1981.

Francis Stibi served in the United States Army. He was attached to the 9th Infantry Division and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey in April on 1952.

Francis Stibi was living at 329 Bailey Street when he was appointed to the Camden Fire Department in 1955. He was sworn into the Department on December 30, 1955, and began his service on January 1, 1956. He completed 34 years of service, retiring effective January 1, 1990.

Francis Stibi resided for many years on Lemuel Avenue in East Camden before leaving the city at some point after 1980. His last years were spent as a resident of West Deptford Township, New Jersey. He passed away at the age of 88 on January 15, 2018

Firemen Here Get Advanced First Aid Course

More than 40 members of the Camden Fire Department have completed the Red Cross course in advanced first aid according to announcement today by Howard F. Keller, Collingswood, chairman of the Camden County Chapter's first aid committee. 

Instruction sessions were under the direction of Fire Chief William V. Pfefferle, Drillmaster Anthony Dzinski, a member of the local chapter first aid group, assisted by Nicholas E. George, were instructors. Dzinski is a member of the Red Cross faculty at the National Aquatic School held in this area each year for instruction in advance safety techniques. Dick Harris, director of Red Cross safety services, supervised.

All members of the graduating class are personnel of several units housed at fire department headquarters here. These include the Headquarters Company, Engine Company 2, Rescue Squad 1 and Truck Company 1. These groups include: 

Rescue Squad: Captains Arthur Batten, Philip A. Stinger and Albert Weller; Edward Brendlinger, Harrison MacNeir, Robert Olesiewicz and James W. Smith.

Headquarters Company: Raymond Banford, John K. Voll and John W. Yates.

Truck Company 1: Captains Daniel Jiannetto, Robert E. Dukes and Otto V. Kaiser; William Watkin, Chester Gedrich, George Baxter, John Mogck, George C. Hennessy, Charles Devlin, Ambrose W. Faust, Joseph McTaggart, Howard R. Taggart, William G. Winstanley and Elmer Johnson Jr.

FRANCIS P. STIBI

On January 15, 2018. Age 88. Of West Deptford. Formerly of Camden. Loving husband of 56 years to Lillian Stibi (nee Graves). Loving father of Lena Sturgis (Derek, Sr.) and Rose Stibi-Raiken (Steve). Beloved grandfather of Derek Sturgis Jr. (Kim Charyszyn), Erika Raiken and Steven Raiken and great grandfather to five granddaughters. Predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Marie Marsden, Rose Anderson, William Stibi and John Stibi.

Francis proudly served our country in the US Army and retired as a Camden City Fireman in 1990 after 34 years of service. He will be remembered for always having a pocket full of change.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday morning Jan. 22 from 10 to 11 AM at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME, 851 Monmouth St., Gloucester City. Funeral service 11 AM in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
