DR BANKS S. BAKER was born in Fallston, North Carolina on February 2, 1906 to Michael J. and his wife, the former Sarah Ann D. Shell. His father was a farmer. Banks Baker graduated from Fallston High School in 1924, and went on to the University of North Carolina, from which he graduated in 1928.

Determined to follow his older brother, Dr. Maurice E. Baker, into medicine, Banks Baker came north to attend medical school, and graduated from Temple University School of Medicine in 1932. He interned at Cooper Hospital in Camden from 1932 until 1934  before going out on his own as a general practitioner.

Dr. Baker was affiliated with Cooper Hospital as assistant obstetrician. He was a member of the Camden County Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He served as a Captain in the United States Army Air Force from 1942 through 1945.

Dr. Baker made his home at 618 Benson Street, near Cooper Hospital.  He was married to the former Margaret Witt. The Bakers had two children, David and Mary Anne. 

Dr. Banks S. Baker eventually retired and moved to Arizona. Last a resident of Pima AZ, he passed away on October 10, 1997.
