Man Struck, Killed Helping Motorist
ELK -- A 26-year-old Camden man was struck and killed on Route 55 Tuesday night after he stopped to help change a flat tire, state police said.
The motorist with the flat tire was also struck. The incident was reported at 8:30 p.m. on southbound Route 55 here near exit 45.
Cesar Ruiz, of the 500 block of North 32nd Street, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The injured motorist, Raymond Nunez Jr., 21, of Vineland, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The extent of his injuries, which are believed to be nonlife-threatening, were not immediately reported.
John Panco, 54, of Vineland was driving the 2007 gray Honda that struck both men on the shoulder of the road. Police said an initial investigation looked like it was an accident but the investigation is continuing.
Panco did stop and wait at the scene after the accident..
