PRIVATE JOSEPH E. DZURKA appears (according to the 1920 census) to have been born to John and Mary Dzurka in 1916. At the time of the census, John Dzurka and family lived at 1623 Pulaski Street in Camden NJ, John Dzurka then working as a driver at the New York Shipbuilding Company. Joseph E. Dzurka was inducted into the United States Army from Philadelphia PA. He was a member of Company L, 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division. Private Dzurka was killed in action on January 17, 1945, during the Battle of the Bulge. He is buried at Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery in Henri-Chapelle, Belgium, and is honored at the War Memorial in Cherry Hill NJ. |
