Former South Jersey Bottling Company Buildings

This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey.

A complex of abandoned buildings that for many years had been the home of the South Jersey Bottling Company, a beer and soda distributor, and which later housed an auto repair shop, the garages at 264 Pine Street (256-264) and the adjacent building at 266 Pine Street were hit by fire, most likely another arson, on July 17, 2012. A fire was also set in what was left of the home at 254 Pine Street. Several months earlier, on December 21, 2011, 254 Pine Street was gutted by fire, taking the adjacent home at 252 Pine Street with it.

The call went out at approximately 11:35 AM. Engine 1, Squad 7, Ladder 1, Ladder 3, Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were dispatched for a reported building fire at South 3rd and Pine Street. Squad 7 arrived with fire showing from the garage area. Battalion 1 reported a 2 story end of the row with attached garages, with fire conditions in the garage area. Squad 7 went into operation with a 2.5" hand line as Ladder 1 opened up. Water supplies were quickly established. All Hands were used and multiple hand lines were placed in operation to bring the fire under control. Crews also operated with a rubbish fire behind the exposure in what was left of 254 Pine Street. There were no injuries, however one firefighter was transported by EMS to Cooper Hospital for heat-related symptoms. At approximately 12:15 two additional engine companies were called for relief on the fire ground due to the extremely high temperatures outside.

As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces).
