July 9, 2012 - Brush Fire in North Camden

This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey.

Hot dry weather and possibly the bad actions of miscreants resulted in a large brush fire, or to be more accurate, a series of fires, in North Camden above Byron Street between Point and North 5th Streets on the afternoon of July 9, 2012. The fire was first reported at 3:15 p.m. on Monday July 9, 2012 behind homes in the 300 block of Byron Street in Camden, N.J. Fire officials said a combination of brush and trash fueled the blaze. It was not determined if the fire had been set in multiple locations or had spread by wind-borne embers. Smoke could be seen from as far away as the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia. All hands were placed in operation, with crews using multiple hand lines as well as ladder pipes. The Gloucester City Fire Department was also called upon to render assistance..

More photos from this fire taken by Ted Aurig can be seen at www.NewJerseyfireground.com.

Another brush fire was dealt with on July 12 north of Byron Street between North 4th Street and North 5th Street, as the hot dry weather continued throughout the area.

As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces).
