Camden Fire Department
Fire, Rescue, & Safety Operations
March 20, 2012 - 503 South 4th Street

This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey.

At approximately 7:12 PM on March 209, 2012 units of the Camden Fire Department were dispatched to a dwelling at 503 South 4th Street, between Berkley and Senate Streets in South Camden. Built in 1859, this building is a two story, end of row affair, that had once also housed a barber shop. It was originally built as a middle-of-row, but the adjacent building at 501 South 4th Street had been razed long ago. In the mid-1920s 503 South 4th Street had been the home of former Camden Fire Department member Dominick Dalanni, who served from 1950 through 1959.

The fire was contained to the basement, where apparently the resident was having the fuel oil tank removed after having converted the house to gas heat. Somehow during the process of extraction, a fire was set off. Coming from Pennsauken, I arrived on scene and took my first photograph at 7:27 PM.

As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces).

Looking West on Senate Street from South 4th Street

The fellow in the red hat lives at 509 South 4th Street, the first house from the left, and was just getting home. He asked what had happened.
