This page and the other pages in this series are the successors to the series of web-page about the Camden Fire Department that began with the page Camden Fire Department: The Fires of the Summer of 2011. On this and other pages in the series you will find pictures and information regarding different events and aspects of the fire service in Camden, New Jersey.

On Saturday morning, February 4, 2012 I had eaten breakfast with two good friends, Jim Bessing and Robert Earl Crim, at the diner on Route 130 and Browning Road in Brooklawn. On the way back, I stopped at Liberty Station. Finding no one there, headed north to Fire headquarters, where I spent a little time shooting the breeze with Firefighter Eshu Ryan, who was on the watch desk. At noon it was time to break for lunch, with the men from Engine 1 and Ladder 1 present. Engine 1 that day consisted of Captain Jose Berrios and Firefighters Tyrone Baker, Ed Mendez, and Eshu Ryan; Ladder 2 was staffed by Captain Joel Bain and Firefighters, Johnnie Broadwater, Chris Broccoli, and Pete Perez. Battalion Chief Ed Glassmann was on his way back to Fire Headquarters as we sat down..

I was two bites into a chicken sandwich when Chris Broccoli said "Something's burning, I smell smoke". A quick look out the window confirmed that, with smoke coming out the second floor windows of 333-335 Arch Street. This building, at the corner of North 4th and Arch Street is literally at the entrance to Fire Headquarters parking lot and rear garage doors, and literally is within a stone's throw from Fire Headquarters' kitchen.

I grabbed my camera, coat and hat and started shooting while the men brought the apparatus around the block. The one occupant of the building had already gotten out, and told me that there was no one else inside. The fire, most likely cause by careless smoking, was quickly dealt with. The resident was treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. After wrapping up, the thought was to finish lunch.... and then beep-beep-beep.... "1282 Carl Miller Boulevard, a dwelling".... I caught a ride with Ladder 1. By the time we got there things had been taken care of, apparently this was a first floor electrical fire soewhat complicated as the foire had gotten into the from wall of the living room. Engine 10 and Ladder 2 were operating when we arrived.

All photos are presented in the order in which they were taken. There are so many images for this fire that I have split coverage of this fire into two parts, this being Page 2. There is a link below to return to Page 1.

As with the web page covering other Camden Fire Department events, if you can identify anyone that I've missed, please e-mail me. (I'm terrible at at names and faces)..
