PRIVATE JOSEPH V. MOORE was born in 1917 to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel & Elizabeth Moore. The Moores had been born in Newfoundland, Canada, and like many of his countrymen, Daniel Moore had come to Camden NJ to work in the shipyards and other industries in the then growing city. They arrived in the United States in 1898. Joseph Moore was the youngest child, before him came Margaret, Catherine, Elizabeth, Peter, and Anna. By 1920 Daniel Moore and his family were living at 756 Division Street in Camden and they were still there in 1930, although according to the census Elizabeth More was no longer there.

Joseph V. Moore was inducted into the Army early in 1941. He drowned on February 18, 1944 while serving at Balboa in the Panama Canal Zone. Private Moore was survived by his brother, Peter Moore, then serving in the United Kingdom, and his sister Margaret, with whom which he had made his home, at 925 Penn Street in Camden NJ. His death was reported in the February 25, 1944 evening edition of the Camden Courier-Post.
