JOHN ALBERT OVERLAND, Drummer USMC, was born in 1899. He was the son of Albert G. and Hannah Overland. The family lived at 411 Royden street when the census was taken in 1900. Albert Overland had emigrated from Norway, worked as a ships carpenter. Sadly, Hannah Overland passed away on December 7, 1902 and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery on Mt. Ephraim Avenue in Camden.

John Albert Overland enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 21, 1917. He was killed in action on June 15, 1918 during the fighting at Belleau Wood.

John Albert Overland was survived by his father, a brother, Albert Overland, and his grandmother, Janette Overland, all of 517 Borton Street, Camden NJ.
