SERGEANT ALLEN H. BOSSERT was the son of William H. and Mary Bossert. He was born in Pennsylvania. The Bossert family moved to 113 Chestnut Avenue, Woodlynne NJ sometime after 1902. His father worked as an inspector on one of the railroads. Allen Bossert, known locally as "Dewey" entered the service in August 1917, and was assigned to Company K, 311th Infantry at Camp Dix. He was later assigned to the 311th Machine Gun Company, and was overseas from May, 1918, until October 3, 1918, when he was killed by shrapnel. At the time of his death he was about to be sent to school to study for a lieutenancy. Sergeant Bossert was the only Woodlynne boy to make the supreme sacrifice. |
