CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY
The
Winter of 1943
Fifth and & Market
Street - Broadway & Federal Street
A snowstorm hit Camden on January 28, 1943. The Courier-Post ran two photos, one of Market Street looking east from North 5th Street, and another of the intersection of Broadway and Federal Street, looking east from City Hall. Visible in the Market Street photo are the Stanley Theater, the Camden Trust Bank, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Visible in the Broadway amd Federal Street photo are the YMCA building at 614 Federal Street. Also visible is the commercial building built in 1926-27 on the east side of Broadway south of Federal Street, which housed the MAB Paint store and the Horn & Hardart restaurant for many years. The J.C. Penney Department Store, originally constructed in 1902 as the Munger & Long Department Store, and the A.C. Schultes cigar store, located in the Penney's building, is quite evident. |
