Division Street

DIVISION STREET must have been named because it divided something, but what I'm not exactly sure of! Line Street, which lies 2 blocks to the north was named because it followed the finally settled line of division between the Cooper and Kaighn properties. I'm not sure that Division Street ever actually divided anything!

Do you have a Division Street memory or picture. Let me know by e-mail so it can be included here.

THREE MEN ARRESTED FOR STREET HOLDUP

Three persons were under arrest last night after an Ardmore man was "relieved" of a watch and $25 early yesterday while walking in the neighborhood of Second and Pine streets.

The watch was returned to the victim, William Hemminger, of Ardmore, last night after police had arrested John Cheek, 27, of 735 Kaighn Avenue; John Barton, 25, ,of 830 South Second street, and Viola Lewis, 39, of 315 Division Street.

The narrow walkway adjacent to 319 and remnant of a gate for a similar walkway, along with the lack of side windows on 321-1/2 where 321 stood are the last physical evidence of 321 Division Street.

In the above photo, 321-1/2 has been mis-numbered. It appear that at one time the owner of 321-1/2 obtained ownership of 321 and "adopted" the "321 Division Street"  as the address for both lots.

At 8 P.M. on January 15th, Box 374 at Sixth and Spruce Streets was transmitted for a phone alarm reporting a dwelling at 838 Division Street, South Camden. Arriving fire fighters found nothing and following a search of the neighborhood, declared the incident a false alarm. Some thirteen minutes later, 374 Box was again transmitted, now reporting the address of 638 Division Street, more than two blocks from the previous location. This time, units found a three-story frame heavily involved with fire extending to adjoining properties. The wrong address had caused the blaze to gain considerable headway. A second alarm assignment was required.
