ALLEN'S COURT, sometimes referred to as Allen Court, ran east from 108 North 2nd Street to a dead end. Allen's Court is not named in the 1850 Camden City directory, but was listed in the 1863-1864 Directory, which indicates that the street was first laid out during the intervening years. If the city house numbering scheme is to be taken as fact, during the 1880s and 1890s six houses stood on the south side of the court, while from the 1910s through at least 1933 six houses stood on the north side. The issue is more confusing because the city directories show different house numbers at different times for what are obviously the same house. When the 1929 Camden City Directory was compiled there were stll six houses standing on Allen's Court, only three of which were occupied. Allen's Court was still in existence in 1933, but was gone by the time the 1947 City Directory was published. |
