Camden Streets - Twenty-Sixth Street- 26th Street

TWENTY-SIXTH STREET begins in what was originally called the Pavonia section of what is now considered Cramer Hill and ends in East Camden when it intersects with Bank and Mickle Streets. It was first laid out sometime prior to 1887, it was called Union Street, and was renamed sometime after the 1899 annexation of Stockton Township to Camden. The street begins at the Delaware River and runs south, across River Road intersect with North 27th Street, then starts again once beyond the Pavonia railroad switching yard at Howell Street south to Westfield Avenue, where it is interrupted by the "firehouse-police station-library" triangle between Westfield and Federal Street. At Federal the street runs on for two blocks, where it terminates at the intersection of Bank and Mickle Streets.

As in all numbered streets in Camden, it is North 26th Street above Federal, and South 26th below.

WRONG TAGS, NO LICENSE COST AUTOIST $35 FINE Harry Thieme, 34, of 1219 North Twenty-fifth street, was fined $25 and costs last night for driving with improper tags and $10 and costs for having no license, at a hearing before Recorder George E. Yost, in Pennsauken. CAMDEN YOUTHS NABBED AS SUSPECTS Three East Camden youths were a nested and held "on suspicion" early yesterday when policemen said they failed to explain satisfactorily why they were at Twenty-fourth and Howell Streets at 1:30 a. m. Sergeant Edward Hahn and District Detective Richard Donnelly made the arrest. The youths gave their names as Charles Bowers, 17, of 1024 North Twenty-sixth street, Henry Allhiser, 17, of 2415 Howell Street, and James Devenney, 17, of 1161 North Thirty-third street.
