SCHOOL BOARD NAMES 12 NEW TEACHERS AND LISTS
CHANGES The Camden Board of Education yesterday accepted and approved its teachers' committee report containing appointments, reappointments, assignments and transfers among the largest single group on the municipal payroll. The report, submitted at a special meeting of the board has been awaited eagerly by hundreds of instructors. Many changes are made as a result of plans to inaugurate two senior high schools in the system beginning with the 1933-34 term in September. The present Woodrow Wilson Junior High School, at Thirty-second and Federal Streets, henceforth will operate as the Commercial and Practical Arts High School, on a par with the Camden Senior High School at Park Boulevard, Farnham Park, which is to be known as the Camden Academic High School. Many Reappointments Aside from reappointments of those teachers under tenure, the report includes appointments of 10 new elementary teachers, two new secondary teachers and the reappointment of 27 elementary instructors, nine auxiliary teachers to regular posts, eight high school and 10 junior high school teachers. Five others listed as secondary teachers are reappointed to elementary schools because their positions previously had been abolished by the board. The teachers' committee still has a number of matters to report, making it impossible at present to determine exactly how many instructors eventually will be dropped from the system. The board has been endeavoring to absorb elsewhere all teachers whose positions were eliminated in the economy wave, so that only a few persons will be affected, according to Samuel E. Fulton, president. Resignations and numerous retirements permit this, he said. Men Get Women's Jobs New appointments in the elementary schools, with their salaries are: A. Adele Williams, Sarah R. Weaver, Mary A. Becker, Phyllis Jack, Gladys E. Gibson, $1300 each; Richard K. Fisher, Edward G. O'Brien, Edward Lobley and Jacob Zahn, $1000 each, and Clara G. Wittels, $1600. These salaries are subject to 30 percent reduction. Theodore L. Soistmann and Mitchell Mozeleski are the secondary teachers engaged at $1500 yearly, less 30 percent. Assignment of Lobley, a former
Camden High School and University
of Pennsylvania basketball and track star, along with O'Brien, Fisher and Zahn, to elementary schools marks a departure, in the Board of
Education policy. They will take up duties in schools where women Retirement or Miss Helen Marchant, of the Broadway school, to be effective June 30, was announced. Resignation of Mrs. Eva A. Davis, of Washington School, was accepted to be effective the same date. Leave of absence to June 30 was granted Miss Carolyn E. Hutchins, Whittier School, who has been ill since April 3.
