THOMAS JAMES McCABE was born in Atlantic Coty, New Jersey on June 21, 1926 to James M. and Gertrude McCabe. The family came to Camden in the early 1940s. When the 193 City Directory was compiled the McCabes lived at 418 South 27th Street, where they remained through 1927. Thomas McCabe served in the United States Navy during World War II. He returned to Camden after the war.on December 1, 1953 Thomas McCabe was appointed to the Camden Fire Department

The 1956 New Jersey Bell Telephone Directory a\shows Thomas Mccabe living at 385 Garden Avenue in East Camden. By 1959 he had moved to 3036 Stevens Street, where me made his home into the 1970s.

Thomas McCabe was promoted to Captain on September 1, 1962, and to Battalion Chief on November 29, 1968.

When residency restrictions were lifted for Camden police and firemen, Thomas McCabe moved to Pine Hill New Jersey. He later moved to Absecon, New Jersey.

Thomas McCabe passed away on Au=gust 2, 2004.

MCCABE, THOMAS
'Tom', age 76. On August 2, 2004, of Absecon. Born in Atlantic City and later resided in Camden and Atco. Tom was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII, he was the retired Battalion Chief of the Camden City Fire Department, and later was employed at Bally's Casino.
Beloved husband of the late Betty Lou (nee Lafferty). He is survived by his sister, Gertrude, his daughters, Kathy Narcum of Turnersville, Maryann Gillen of Crawfordsville, IN and Teri McCabe-Frezz of Little Egg Harbor, NJ, and four grandchildren.
Visitation Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 591 New Jersey Avenue, Absecon, NJ, with burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin, NJ.
