SAMUEL EDWARDS was born in Pennsylvania around 1879. The 1920 Census shows Samuel Edwards as living at 539 State Street, and working as an title examiner in a law office. He was by then married, and with wife Rose had one daughter, Helen, aged six. Another daughter, Ruth, was born shortly after the census was taken. The Edwards home was burglarized in February of 1928. During these years his neighbor at 513 State Street was prominent lawyer Camden lawyer Samuel J.T. French Sr. and his family. Active in Republican politics, he served on the Camden County Board of Freeholders from Camden's 10th Ward in 1930 and 1931. The Samuel Edwards family was still living at 539 State Street when the 1936 New Jersey Bell Telephone Directory was compiled. The family was no longer in Camden when the 1947 City Directory was published. |

Three-cornered
Fights
In
Freeholder Contest Three-cornered battles in Clementon and Delaware township will mark freeholder contests at the November 3 election. Ballots will be casts for an entire new board of freeholders, with 38 to be elected. Boroughs to have freeholders representation for the first time as a result of recent legislation are Clementon, Lindenwold, Oaklyn, Woodlynne, Mt. Ephraim and Runnemede. Rivals in the three-cornered fight in Clementon are Theodore W. Gibbs, Republican Organization nominee; Frank C. Somers, running as a Republican Independent, and Herbert P. McAdams, the Democratic nominee. The triangular race in Delaware township finds Frank N. Walton, Republican Organization; J. Watson Matlack, Republican Independent, and Augustus A. Cornet, Democrat, as the contestants. Nine members of the present board of freeholders will not be on the ballot for re-election. All are Republicans. They are Benjamin W. Sykes, Eighth Ward; Joseph Tarpine, First Ward, Gloucester; Philip Stohlbergel, Audubon; Joseph H. Van Meter, Collingswood; William J. Dallas, Haddon Heights; James W. Davis, Clementon; Charles C. Durges, Haddon township; Theodore Schleinkofer, Waterford township, and William A. Robinson, Winslow .. Joseph Bennie, Third Ward, Camden, is the only Democratic member on the present board. July 4 were discussed last night at a meeting in the Pyne Poynt Social
Club, 929 North
Fifth Street. Among
the features tentatively planned are a children's parade at 9.30 a. m.,
under the supervision of Isaac Kyler; memorial service at 11
a.
m., under direction of William B.
Sullender;
sporting events for men, women and children to start at 1.30
p.
m., under direction of Alfred J. Ross, Jr.; outdoor motion pictures
starting at 9 p. m., under supervision of Robert J. Nelson and a dance in
charge of Samuel G. Dickinson, Jr., starting 11t 10.30
p.
m. Committee
