Camden People - Ronald Marcianna

RONALD A. MARCIANNA was the son of Al and Nancy Marcianna. The Marcianna family, which included brother Louis and sister Regetta, lived at 341 Winslow Street in what was then Camden's Eighth Ward in the 1960s and 1970s. A graduate of Camden High School, Ronald Marcianna served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning from the military, he took the Civil Service test and was appointed to the Camden Fire Department, beginning work on September 5, 1973. He served for over 25 years, before retiring on January 1, 1999.

Among his assignments while with the Camden Fire Department was time spent in the 1990s with Administrative Services, where he was assigned on October 30, 1991 when Camden was the scene of numerous "Mischief Night" Fires. The Administration Staff Services staff then consisted of Captain Dennis Dowhy, Water Supply Officer/

Logistics Aide; Captain Joseph Marini, Communication Liaison Officer; Captain Paul Price, Public Information Officer/Logistic Aide; Fire Fighter Robert Deford, Logistic Aide; and Fire Fighters Ron Marcianna, William Neal and Thomas Prosinski.

Ronald Marcianna was married to Ruth Green and the father of two daughters, Lisa and Michelle. Sadly, daughter Michelle, a special education teacher with a master's degree in education, passed in March of 2008.

Last a resident of Gibbstown, New Jersey, Ronald Marcianna died of cancer at the age of 66 on February 17, 2012.

On February 17, 2012. Ronald A. Marcianna beloved husband of Ruth M. (nee Green). Dear father of Lisa (Gary) Tesi and the late Michelle Marcianna. Loving grandfather of Matthew and Joseph. Dear brother of Louis J. (Bert) Marcianna, Regetta (Stosh) Sobieski and brother-in-law of Christine Wilk. Also surviving are his many nieces and nephews.

Ronald was an army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Camden City Fire Fighter for 25 years retiring in 1999.

Relatives and friends of the family will meet for his viewings on Monday evening from 6:30pm to 9:00pm and on Tuesday morning from 9:00am to 10:15am at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, at St Michael R. C. Church, 313 Memorial Ave., Gibbstown, NJ. 08027. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30am. Interment New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions in Ronald's memory to The Michelle Marcianna Memorial Scholarship Fund, 333 Ridgeway St., Gloucester City, NJ. Arrangements by the Bocco Funeral Home, Cherry Hill.

We were neighbors on Winslow Street, great friends with the whole family, Nancy and Al, Ronnies parents, brother Louis and sister Regetta. Al gave us our first train set for Christmas to run under the tree but the Lionel set was too big so we built a platform to run it around we still have that set today, it's made of metal the engine alone must weigh about 6 to 8 pounds alone. Ronnie was a terrific guy like his whole family was, he will be missed very much. RIP RON.

Ron, you all ways had me laughing when you came down to the kitchen, with Murphy and I at the first table by the door, then when I came up stairs as a fire inspector, I couldn't talk to you too long, you always had me laughing there too. You were a good buddy and friend, to all the firefighters I worked with. RIP Ron, and don't make all them up stairs laugh too hard, when you get there, 'cause I know you stopped and had a smoke on your way up.
