On July 23, 2004 of Haddon Twp., NJ. Formerly of Fairview, Camden, NJ. Age 82 yrs. Beloved wife of Joseph M. DiFante. Dear sister of Mae Bittmann, Edward Duchneskie, the late Clara Noll & the late Ethel Barrett. Also surviving are her nieces Maryann Shoemaker, Lois Donaway, Marlyn Lee, Barbara Cunane, Joann Abbott, Nancy Wade, Karin Gulizio, Celeste Greening, Michele Sams, Maryann Parisi, & her nephews Emery Bittmann, Billy Bittmann, Allen Lee, Johnny Duchneskie, and dedicated nephew-in-law Frank Cunane.
Mildred was a Vet of WWII W.A.C. (Women's Army Corps) serving in the Asiatic Theater under Gen. MacArthur. She received many awards while in the service and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mildred was a member of American Legion Post No. 71 of Fairview, Camden for 48 yrs and Post Commander for 12 yrs. She also represented the American Legion on the National Legislative Committee in Washington, DC & was the first female County Commander of the American Legion in Camden County.
Mildred formed the Camden County Personnel Dept, & she was the President of Camden County Council No. 10, the first lady in the state of New Jersey to be president of a local union.
Relatives & friends of the family will meet for her viewings on Tues. evening from 7 to 9pm and on Wed. morning from 10 to 11am in the BOCCO FUNERAL HOME, 1300 North Kings Hwy, Cherry Hill, NJ. Funeral services will be held on Wed. morning at 11am in the funeral home. The American Legion Service conducted by the Former County Commanders will be at 8pm Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers donations in Mildred's memory may be made to The Fairview Village United Methodist Church, 1463 Chesapeake Rd, Camden, NJ 08104 or to The Children's Fresh Air Home, 1100 Surf Ave, North Wildwood, NJ 08260.
