HUEY EVANS... he was born Hubert Evans but EVERYONE knew him as Huey... was a dear friend in the days when I was playing music at Krystal Lounge. I met him about the time he retired from the Sheriff's department, and we had A LOT of fun together.

OBITUARY

Hubert Evans, the son of the late Louise Evans and the late Wallie Bynum. was born on December 13. 1936 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. 

Hubert graduated from Pine Tops High School in North Carolina. Moved to Rocky Mount, NC and then in 1963 took permanent residence in Camden, New Jersey, where he met his devoted wife, Delores (Sis) Ross.  

Hubert was hired by the Camden Sheriff’s Department on August 16. 1966 as a Correctional Officer. Promoted to Sergeant in June 1972, and retired from the Sheriff’s Department on April 1, 1994. During his employment by the Sheriffs Department he received various commendations and certificates. 

Hubert, who was affectionately know as Huey, had a great love for music, dancing and playing pool with his friends. 

With prayers of comfort from Reverend Eugene Gilbert, Huey accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into his life. He departed this life on September 2, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.  

He leaves to mourn, his beloved wife, Delores. two daughters, Connie Parrish-Wallace, husband Louis Wallace of Boynton Beach, FL. Linda Hairston-Mason, husband Jerome Mason of Pine Hill, NJ, five grand-children, Richard and Wayne Wilkerson, Nakisha Parrish, Lenae and Ryan Hairston. step-father, John Dowdy of Raleigh, NC, two sisters, Carolyn Goode of Raleigh NC, and Linda Harris of Wilson, NC, three brothers, Donald Dowdy (deceased) of Bailey NC, Elbert Roy Dowdy of Bailey NC, and Thomas Dowdy. wife sister-in-laws, Joan Hall of Maple Shade NJ, and Annie Ledora Hall of Middletown DE, eight great grandchildren, special cousins Bernett Bynum of Philadelphia, PA and Walter Evans, wife Majorie of Jacksonville NC, long time friend James Israel and the Israel family and a host of relatives and friends.

EVANS, HUBERT 'HUEY'
69, of Camden died September 9, 2005. He is survived by his devoted wife Delores, 2 stepchildren Linda Hairston Mason (Jerome) and Connie Wallace (Louis) 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 5 grand children and a friend who was like a brother Jay Israel and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Monday 1 pm at St. John's Baptist Church 30th & Mitchell Streets, Camden.
The viewing will be 11 am - 1pm. Interment Harleigh Cemetery. Ministry of Comfort entrusted to the MAY FUNERAL HOMES Camden, Pennsauken and Willingboro. Expressions of sympathy may be sent through www.mayfuneralhomes.com
