JOSEPH F. WOOD was born in Pennsylvania around 1884, the son of German-born parents. He came to Camden around 1910. At the time of the 1920 census, he was living with wife Henrietta at 701 South 4th Street, and working as a riveter in one of Camden's shipyards. By 1930 he had purchased a home at 637 White Street, between 4th and 5th and Line and Beckett Streets, in Camden, and was working as a clerk for the city. He also owned and operated a candy store at the White Street address. A staunch Republican, he served as a committeeman from what was then Camden's Fourth Ward.
Joseph Wood passed away from a fatal heart attack on June 1, 1950, and was buried at Harleigh Cemetery. Childless, he was survived by his wife, a brother William, and a sister, Mrs. Cecelia Wright, all of Camden.
