JOHN WALTER BRADLEY TRAPPE was born in WIllimasport, Pennsylvania on September 9, 1894. He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard prior to America's entry into World War I and had attended the Y.M.C.A. College in Springfield, Massachusetts. By June of 1917 he had moved to Merchantville, New Jersey.

On May 16, 1923 J. Walter Trappe went to work as an audit clerk in Camden's comptroller's office, and on October 1 of that year was named deputy comptroller. He held that post for more than 34 years. His last day on the job was December 31, 1957. 

A resident of Camden until his dying day, J. Walter Trappe died in May of 1976.
