BAYARD G. LAWRENCE was born in Philadelphia PA on April 1, 1899. He attended elementary and high school training in that city, at Baldwin's Grammar School and Drexel High School. He  received a degree in civil engineering at Penn State College in 1918 and graduated from Palm's Business College, of Philadelphia, in 1920. After  graduation, he worked 14 years for the Yellow Cab Company of Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company's Yellow Cab division as assistant garage superintendent, employment instructor and assistant traffic manager. After leaving the cab business, he took a position with the Social Security Division in the Internal Revenue Bureau, first District of New Jersey, as temporary deputy collector and chief of filing division. This lasted for a year, after which he went to worked for the Works Progress Administration. On June 29th of 1930 he was named job supervisor of New Jersey's 6th WPA District. 

Bayard G. Lawrence Sr. moved to 3143 S Atlanta Road in Camden's Fairview section with wife Anna and son Bayard Jr. around 1925. He lived at that address through at least the fall of 1959, and was still a resident of Camden when he passed away in May of 1975.

LAWRENCE NAMED JOB SUPERVISOR IN 6TH WPA DISTRICT
Camden Man Succeeds Babes as Acting Heads; Begins New Duties Today

Appointment of Bayard G. Lawrence, 3143 South Atlanta Road, Camden, as acting employment supervisor in the Sixth WPA District was announced yesterday by State WPA Administrator Robert W. Allan.

Lawrence, who is now employed as WPA investigator and unit chief in the Sixth District, will assume his new duties today. He will succeed Irving Babes, who has served as acting employment supervisor the past several months. Babes will resume his former duties in the employment division of the WPA at State Headquarters, Newark. 

Lawrence, who is 39, was born in Philadelphia and received his elementary and high school training there at Baldwin's Grammar School and Drexel High School. He took a degree in civil engineering at Penn State College in 1918 and was graduated from Palm's Business College, Philadelphia, in 1920. He was employed 14 years by the Yellow Cab Company, Philadelphia, and the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company in the Yellow Cab division as assistant garage superintendent, employment instructor and assistant traffic manager. He was employed one year in the Social Security Division in the Internal Revenue Bureau, first District of New Jersey, as temporary deputy collector and chief of filing division.

He is married and has one son, Bayard Jr., 18, a student of Woodrow Wilson High School, Camden. The Lawrences have lived 14 years in their present home in Fairview. Lawrence is active in the affairs of St. Joan of Arc R. C. Church and is a member of the Holy Name Society of that church..
