PRIVATE FIRST CLASS JOHN J. HEGENER, JR. of 830 Bergen Street was killed in action on October 11, 1944. He had entered the Army in July of 1943, and went overseas in January 1944. A graduate of St. Mary's High School in Gloucester City, he had worked as a lifeguard at Farnham, Gloucester, and Mountwell Parks in Camden County prior to entering the Army.
