Private Eadline was assigned to the 182nd Infantry Regiment, Americal Division. The Americal Division (a contraction of American New Caledonian Division) was one of only two unnumbered divisions in the Army (the other was the Philippine Division). As such, units, sometimes even battalions, were frequently joined with other units, producing much difficulty in following the battle history of the 182nd Regiment.
Allan B. Eadline, 20, was killed in action on
Private Eadline's brother, Second Lieutenant Lloyd L. Eadline, was killed in action four days later after his plane had been struck by anti-aircraft fire over Germany.
Private Eadline was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Eadline of the Fraser Avenue address, and brothers George Eadline, a First Lieutenant with the Army Signal Corps in Europe, and RT2C Herbert S. Eadline, in the Navy. Herbert Eadline's brother-in-law, Edgar Crouthamel, was killed in a plane crash while serving with the Army Air Force in England in 1944.
